The adolescents and youth can play critical roles in all nutrition and food security processes, from farm to fork to support the achievement of SDGs especially Goals 1 and 2. It is on this basis that in 2022, OAY with the technical support from Ministry of Health, State Department of Youth , UNICEF and UNOPs mobilized youth organizations to champion the scaling up nutrition agenda in Kenya through The Kenya Adolescents and Youth Scaling Up Nutrition Network.

01 Summary

The adolescents and youth can play critical roles in all nutrition and food security processes, from farm to fork to support the achievement of SDGs especially Goals 1 and 2. It is on this basis that in 2022, OAY with the technical support from Ministry of Health, State Department of Youth , UNICEF and UNOPs mobilized youth organizations to champion the scaling up nutrition agenda in Kenya through The Kenya Adolescents and Youth Scaling Up Nutrition Network.
SUN Youth Network is a platform that convenes, coordinates and builds capacity of the youth, youth-led and youth-serving organizations to drive the nutrition and food security agenda, for Kenya to be free from malnutrition in all its forms in line with Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development ,agenda 2063 and Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) priorities. The network is part of the SUN Kenya family that comprises; (Government Network, United Nations (UN) Network, Civil Society Alliance (CSA) Network, SUN Business Network (SBN), Academic Network). The SUN Kenya family mandate is anchored on the principles of global Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) movement that is led by countries that have committed their investments for good nutrition for their people.

In line with SUN priorities, the Network enhances learning; promotes healthy habits; advocates for and supports effective and meaningful participation of the adolescents and youth in food systems agenda; provides linkages to opportunities for the realization of wellbeing for all and fosters effective partnerships that enhance equality and equity
The Network strengthens Meaningful Adolescent and Youth participation in nutrition and food security related matters through; Research, demand creation, global/ regional/ national discussions, businesses and applicable innovative and technological approaches

04 Impacts

  1. Participation in SUN and food systems related decision-making processes and engagements such as Symposiums/conferences and County engagements
  2. Capacity building of Youth, Youth serving organizations and Youth Led organizations to better advocate for nutrition agenda and participate in decision making processes.
  3. Engagements with the Global SUN Secretariat, SUN Kenya family and youth organizations since 2019, on consultations to set up SUN youth engagement mechanism in Kenya.
  4. Guided by the action plan, the Network is currently supporting youth organizations to engage in offline and online engagements.
